Probably my favorite song from Janet. I’ve become attached to localizing the title of this song as “The Birth of Fall” but it’s more literally “The Day Fall Was Born.”

This song is from a concept album and I have not translated all the songs. As such, this is a vague interpretation of the lyrics for this one song, and were possibly misinterpreted since they were translated without the context of the full album.

Title:
———> aki ga umareta hi
———> “The Birth of Fall”
Circle:
———> Janetto-Tei
Album:
———> tada ima wo tsugeru kiseki
———> “The Path You Make Marks the Present”
Arrange:
Lyrics & Vocal:
Key: Original Lyrics; Romaji; Translation

NOTE: In the first verse, I’ve used “they” to keep it ambiguous but the subject is markedly singular through the use of 独り and 一人分. The chorus is vague as well but the use of 出会う implies a meeting, which in the second verse is implied to be in dreams (further supported by the dream-like musicality of the bridge). The final chorus implies a real meeting, as the promise is being fulfilled and Fall is born. Somehow this translation note turned from pronoun clarification to lyrical analysis…

hitori shizuka ni nemuri ni tsukeru basho wo sagashite
warukunai yume datta to
ochiru mie wo kasanete

Quiet and alone, they search for a place they can rest
Where they can say “I had a pleasant dream…”
And give up all previous pretensions

a soshite tadoritsuku
hitoribun no sayonara tsugeru tame no
aki no saku basho

But oh, the struggle continued
They said their farewells and looked to mark
A new place where Fall could bloom

hajimete atta kono hi ni ha
tagai wo shirankutemo
dareka ni yurusarenakereba ikirarenai no nara
hajimete atta ano hi kara
tagai wo shitteita no
kono sekai ha suki da nante
samishisou ni warawanai de

This day we first met
Even though we don’t know each other
You couldn’t keep living without being able to forgive
So from that first day onwards
It was mutually understood
Things like “Do you like this world?”
Please don’t ask with such a lonesome look

itsuka futari deaetara
soko ni aki wo sakasou

The two in quiet slumber made a promise in a dream
“Someday, if we two should meet
That’s where Fall will bloom.”

hajimete atta ano hi kara
tagai wo shitteitemo
yurushiaeru koto wo moshimo ikiru to yobu no nara
hajimete atta kono hi kara
tagai wo shitteyuku no
kanata de shimai no chigiri ga ne
irodzuiteru kara

And from that first day onwards
Even though we both understood
If being alive and crying out were things that could be forgiven
Then from this day we first met and onwards
We’ll come to understand one another
The promise we made from the ends of that other side
Is turning bright crimson

aki no umareta hi ni

The Birth of Fall
