ちょっと暗く重めだった前回より軽く爽やか路線で!
と思ってたら結局前回より重さを増したという。
でも前回以上にスクリーモを体言できたかなという気はします。
意外とバラエティに富んだアルバムになったんじゃないでしょうか。

全部の曲でベルをチーンと鳴らすことに全力を注ぎました。
スクリームは大差ないですが、ドラムマイクが良いヤツになったのでシンバルは特に音が良くなっていると思いたいです。
Flames Within These Black Feathersのアルバム収録はもうちょっと待っててね。
あとはまぁ細かいことは無しに、皆さんの耳で楽しんで下さい!!

[Concerning the album:]

Merami: Foreground Eclipse has powered up! Even more so than last time, our work has become even more fully-loaded and heartrending. Please look forward to it…

Suzuori: It was a little dark and heavy last time, but the alignment this time is lighter and more fresh! … if you’re thinking that, well, in the end, it got heavier. But more so than last time it feels like we were able to make “screamo.” I think the album grew into something with a lot of variety.

teto: In all the songs, I sprinkled my cymbal’s bell “chi~ng” with all my heart. I’d like to think there’s a big difference in my screaming now, and also because I’ve gotten better mics and become better at mic’ing drums, the cymbals will sound better. Please wait a little longer for the album that “Flames Within These Black Feathers” will appear on. Well, without further ado, everyone, please enjoy!!

[Note: “Flames Within These Black Feathers” is a song that appears on FE’s 2nd full-length, “Tears Will Become Melodies Tonight,” however, the song was in a compilation “かくてるM49 / palette” sold at Comiket 77 (3 months before the release of “Wishes Hidden In the Foreground Noises,” and a full year before “Tears” would be released).]

【02.Vermillion Haloについて】

個人的にアウトロがお気に入りです。
全体的に力強い歌い方をしているのですが、この部分は「ナウシカ」のイメージで歌いました。
何となくわかるかな?(笑)

東方アレンジって基本的に古語的な言い回しの歌詞合うよね。
タイトルは「朱色の光輪」ということで、小町の死神としての世界観を表現してみました。
アレンジはパワーコード多目のシンプルな感じですがうまいことキレイにまとまった気がする。
でもシンプルなプレイほどごまかしきかなくて難しいということを学んだ;
そして3日ぐらいで歌詞ごと一気に作った記憶が。多分今までの中で最速。

この曲とIn A Night〜だけは昔に録音したので音がそんなに良くないかもしれない・・・。
ギターロック寄りエモ+ツーバスドコドコがやりたかったので最後ああなりました。
この曲は全体的にどこかのバンドのオマージュフレーズが多いです。
ただ、ドラムは基本的にオマージュ元がわかりにくいという(笑)

[Concerning Vermillion Halo:]

Merami: My personal favorite part of this is the outro. While I sang the whole album with a powerful voice, this song in particular has a more “Nausicaa” vibe. Hm, does that make sense, I wonder… lol

[Note (2020): Merami is probably specifically referring to Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. When I first translated this in 2013, I was of course aware of the movie, but for some reason assumed a minor character from the Odyssey was who she was referring to.]

Suzuori: “Touhou arrangement” is basically just matching music to lyrics full of old proverbs and outdated expressions. The title reads “Vermillion Halo,” where I tried to represent a beautiful God of Death’s outlook on the world. There are really a lot of power chords in this arrange, so it’s got a little bit of a “simple” feeling, but please don’t misunderstand as playing “simple” is harder than you’d expect. I recall it took me about 3 days straight of working on the lyrics. And yet this song was probably finished the fastest.

teto: This song and “In A Night When Her Sorrow Resounds Around” were recorded a while ago, so the sound quality might not be as good… This is a lot more like guitar rock rather than emo, and I wanted to add some double kick in the final part. This song has a lot of homage phrases to a certain band. Ah, but the drum parts that are homages are probably hard to pick out, lol.

[Note: This song and “In a Night” were released at Comiket 76, this on Foreground Eclipse’s 2nd Demo CD, and “In a Night” on the “東方虹奏曲” compilation, 7 months before “Wishes” was released.]

【03.Oath Of Allegianceについて】

念願のジャージャージャジャーリズム曲です。
個人的に大好きなリズムなので気持ちよく歌うことが出来ました。
凛々しいイメージで歌っております。

スクリーム入れすぎてドラム叩きながらは不可能なのでライブではまずできません。すまぬ。
3:36〜がお気に入りです。それとこの曲を含め、今回録音した曲はミニチャイナシンバルを使っています。
ドラムは結構スクリーモのテンプレ通り。ラスト付近にドコドコやるのは癖です。

[Concerning Oath of Allegiance:]

Merami: The song has an honest “Jaa jaa jaja” rhythm. That’s my personal favorite type of rhythm, so it felt really good when I was singing it. I get a gallant, awe-inspiring feeling while singing this.

Suzuori: The title, directly translated, is “Oath of Allegiance.” Basically, it’s

but then partway a certain screamo banddsfsdfdsubfufbsdfbfb

teto: There’s a lot of screaming while I’m drumming so it’s probably impossible to play this live. Sorry. At 3:36~ is my favorite part. And starting in this song I was able to include and record the mini-china cymbal I’m using. The drums follow a pretty sweet screamo template. It’s becoming a habit to double kick in the last section.

【04.I’m The Seeker (Maybe Each Your Word Calls For It)について】

本作中で最も重いアレンジですね。
割と原曲破壊系ではあるものの、なかなかいいバランスになったんじゃないかなと。
とりあえずレコでは16分刻みの応酬が鬼畜すぎて泣いた。

デモCD Vol.03から。初めて僕が作った曲です。
ちなみにスクリームはNewテイクです。かくれんぼしよーぜ!
ブレイクダウン(曲の途中でテンポが遅くなり、デケデン!デデン!みたいなリズムをヘドバンしながら演奏)がやりたくて作った曲です。
この曲が気に入ったらThe Devil Wears Pradaあたり聴いてほしいです。

[Concerning I’m the Seeker (Maybe Each Your Word Calls For It):]

Merami: The streaming feeling of the melody is nice, you know! And teto’s screams are really cool! Everyone, it’s fine to shout along!

Suzuori: Within this work, this is probably the heaviest arrange. A percentage of the original song is in here, but the balance seems alright, I guess? Well, most of the time the response has been that “at the 16-minute mark of the album it got too brutal and I cried.”

teto: This is from our 3rd Demo CD. It was the first song I made. By the way, the screams here are a new take. Let’s play hide and seek! I really wanted to make a song with a breakdown (where during the middle of the performance, the tempo slows down, the rhythm gets like “Dekedun! Dedun!” and all the while there’s headbanging). If you like this song, I want you to listen to “The Devil Wears Prada.”

【05.Dancing With Happiness And Sadnessについて】

不思議の国のアリスいい曲ですよね。
繊細なメロディに静かな音を重ねて。

たまには静かなのもいいかなーと思って作りました。
あとは前から東方旧作をアレンジしてみたかったのと、
不思議の国のアリスがエモすぎた。
めらもんさんの若干妖しい雰囲気も非常にマッチしてると思います。

この曲のメロディライン大好きです。Aメロが特に!
ギターもエモいですよね。ドラムは比較的控え目、簡単め。でもドコドコはやりたかったのでやりました。
ちなみに歌詞は英語の部分だけ担当しました。

[Concerning Dancing With Happiness and Sadness:]

Merami: A nice song about Alice in a mysterious land. Subtle melodies repeat throughout the peaceful sounds.

Suzuori: When I was making this one, I thought that, “Once in a while, peaceful songs are good, too.” When Alice is in that strange place, it’s so emotional. Combined with Meramon’s charming musical ambience here, I think it’s a really good match.

teto: I love this song’s melody line. Grade-A! And the guitar is emotional, too, don’t you think? In comparison, the drums are a little more reserved and simple. But I really wanted to double kick, so I did. By the way, I was in charge of the English portion of the lyrics.

【06.In A Night When Her Sorrow Resounds Aroundについて】

この歌があなたの心に届きますように。

下手すると同人界で1、2を争えるんじゃないかっていうぐらいタイトル長すぎだっつー
作ってから半年経った今頃やっとそらでタイトル言えるようになりました。
初のふぉあぐら全員での作詞で相当バトルした曲。主に俺とtetoが。
その甲斐あってか今では一番のお気に入りになりました。
あと間奏でコーラスしてみたり。多分もうやらない。

ピアノ!小学校からの友人RISOを召喚しました。いい仕事してくれました。
スクリームも大増量です。これもドラム演奏しながらはたぶん無理です・・・。
本来はスクリーム無しにしようと思ってたんですが、難しかったので結局今の感じに落ち着きました。

[Concerning In A Night When Her Sorrow Resounds Around:]

Merami: This is the first song where we all worked on the lyrics together. So that this song might reach your heart.

Suzuori: This is a little awkward, but within the doujin world, and well, it’s not like we’re competing or anything, but never before was there a song title this long. It took about half a year after making this song until now before I could at last say the title. This is the first song where all the members helped write the lyrics, but really, it was more worthy of being called a battle. Mostly between teto and myself. The result of these efforts ended up making this my favorite song so far. The chorus after the interlude especially. I probably won’t be able to do that again.

teto: Piano! We summoned our friend in grade school, RISO, and they did a great job. There’s much more screaming than before. But again, drumming at the same time is probably out of the question… Originally I had thought it would be better without screams, but in the end, it didn’t sound quite right, and we settled into what it is now.

【07.Truths, Ironies, The Secret Lyricsについて】

今回唯一の全英語歌詞ですね^^
英語歌詞の曲は毎回teto君の仮歌を聴きながら歌ってるんですが、この曲でも何回仮歌を聴きまくったことか(笑)
チップチューンいいですよね!聴いてて楽しくなる。

勢いだけでできた曲と言っても過言じゃない気がする笑
CDのオビを「東方エクスペリメンタル」にしようかと思ったぐらいの実験作だったけど
結果非常に新しい感じのものができたんじゃないかと思う。
ベース序盤に一瞬だけスラップ入れた都合でそのまま全部指弾きしてみたら死にました。
あとはまだ歌詞見てない人は見てみて下さい。ある意味電波ソング。

[Concerning Truth, Ironies, the Secret Lyrics:]

Merami: This time, it’s the only song with entirely English lyrics, huh? Because every time teto would sing temporary lyrics while listening, I wonder how many times I’ve heard this song… lol. Chiptunes are pretty great, yeah?! I hope you enjoy listening!

Suzuori: To say that this song only has energy going for it wouldn’t be an exaggeration, lol. I had thought to put “Touhou Experimental” on the CD’s sleeve, but I think the result really does feel like we’ve made something fresh and new. The intro is the only part with slap bass, because when I tried to slap the rest of the song, my fingers died. Anyone who hasn’t yet looked at the lyrics, please take a look. You’ll see it’s just a nonsensical song.

teto: Unprepared for Barrage Am Ring 0, I played the guitar and made this song myself
———> J&B had already used the origin song, so we went with Suzoori’s song instead.
Well, okay, but I really want to put this song on the 3rd Demo, so how about that, eh?!
———> At the last minute, we put “I’m the Seeker” on there instead.
Well… okay, let’s make this a joke song by adding chiptune! Since it’s the 7th song, no one is going to care anyway!

[Note: teto is referring to Barrage Am Ring 0, which was released at the same time as “Wishes” at Reitaisai 7. It seems that because J&B had already used “U.N. Owen,” it was decided to use Suzuori’s song instead. 【08.Forget Me Notについて】

優しいメロディだったので、歌い方も優しく柔らかいイメージで。
メインをハモリが綺麗に重なって素敵ソングになりました。

「せっかくエモ・スクリーモ系サークルなんだからスクリーモばっかじゃなくたまには王道エモもやろーぜ!」
ということでふぉあぐら史上最もキレイな曲になった気がします。
この曲作ってた時が丁度クリスマスあたりだったので歌詞も若干そんな感じになったような。
某教団に影響受けてたりはしませんごめんウソです

キレイな曲ですね。俺絶対こんな曲かけません。。
ドラムはかなりすぞーりさんの作ったフレーズそのまんまです。
3:08のシンバルとか僕は全く思いつかないアイディアなんで、すごく新鮮でした。
普段いかに元のフレーズ破壊してるかわかる落着きっぷりじゃないでしょうか。

[Concerning Forget Me Not:]

Merami: Because the melody is gentle, I sang gently with a soft image in mind. The pretty harmonies just piled on and it became a really dreamy song.

Suzuori: “We call ourselves an ‘Emo-Screamo circle’ but isn’t this basically all screamo? Let’s write something emo!” was the idea that led to Foreground Eclipse’s prettiest song. The time I started writing this song happened to be around Christmas so the lyrics still have a little bit of that kind of feeling in them. They are definitely not influenced by a certain religious organization sorry that’s a lie

teto: It’s a pretty song, yeah? I definitely wouldn’t be able to make a song like this… Suzoori also wrote a lot of the drum phrases. The ascending cymbals at 3:08 were my idea though; they sound really fresh. However normal the original drum phrases might be though, I know I always destroy (change) them… I just can’t calm down, you know?

【09.THE DISTANT JOURNEY TO YOUについて】

自分で歌った曲ってあまり聴き返したりしないんですが、この曲はなぜかよく聴きます(笑)
疾走感あるサウンドに願いを込めて。

初出はふぉあぐら結成前の2008年というそこそこの歴史を持つ曲。
この曲なかったらふぉあぐら存在してなかったかもって何回言ったかわかんない。
某グレン○ガンに触発された曲なのは秘密です。

ふぉあぐら結成前、ななふれっとにすぞーりさんが書いた曲「THE DISTANT JOURNEY TO YOU」に
スクリームを上乗せして二人に聴かせたのが僕のふぉあぐら活動の始まりでした。
実はドラムもスクリームもNewテイクです。ドラムは早いですが手2足2とかの王道フィルが多いので意外と楽です。
よろしければ叫びましょ!!

[Concerning THE DISTANT JOURNEY TO YOU:]

Merami: I don’t listen to songs I sang myself that often, so why do I often listen to this one, lol. This song feels like a running song, filled with wishes and hopes.

Suzuori: The first appearance of this track was before Foreground Eclipse’s formation, probably around 2008-ish. I’ve been holding onto it since then. I don’t know how many times I’ve said it, but if this song never existed, Foreground Eclipse might not’ve been formed. The song from a certain “Gurren ◯gann” this song was inspired from is a secret.

teto: Before Foreground Eclipse formed, Suzoori wrote this song “THE DISTANT JOURNEY TO YOU” for Nanafuretto. I screamed some extras on top when he let me listen to it when we together one time, and that was my first Foreground Eclipse activity. Truth is the drums and the screams are both new takes. Because the drums are fast, I need both hands and both feet for the many fills, but it’s surprisingly not that difficult. If you’re feeling good, you should scream out too!

[Note: Suzuori and teto refer to the original version of THE DISTANT JOURNEY TO YOU, which appeared on Nanafuretto’s first CD “SUPERPOWER“. While that CD used to be listed on Merami’s site, it has (as of this posting) been removed. teto refers to “new takes” in that the album version is different from Foreground Eclipse’s 2nd Demo CD. Whether Suzuori was a real member of Nanafuretto, I don’t know, but I doubt it. Nanafuretto itself is probably a defunct circle, considering the main member, Gom (website) (wiki), has already made his major debut years ago, and the last Nanafuretto release was in 2009. Adding to the assumptions, I’m guessing Merami was just a guest vocalist on SUPERPOWER. As an interesting tidbit, Gom (credited as “THE GOMBAND”) performed the ED song for the original Black Rock Shooter OVA, “Braveheart.”

この曲を含め、ふぉあぐらで僕がたまに使用しているドラム打ち込みソフトはフリーウェアです。

[Concerning the Omake (Bonus Track):]

Merami: It’s a familiar melody, but here is the bonus track. Because I liked the acting I had a lot of fun during recording. Next time, Marisa will definitely-

Suzuori: As I recall, during the recording of Truths, Ironies, the Secret Lyrics, we were on the day before the press deadline and Meramon hurriedly recorded the skit. I apologize for this absurdity… Personally, I’d probably be okay if it was just her going “Mukii~!”

It was like this last time, too, but this bonus track has a more “doujin” feeling to it, I think.

teto: The drum programming is suitably breakbeats-ish. In this song, and in some other Foreground Eclipse tracks, the software I use to program drums is freeware. Merami is quite talented, huh…
