Iris [LYRICS]

It’s rock, but not quite like Sally rock band arranges. In that way, it’s closer to punk rock. Some people might consider it “indie” rock but that term doesn’t mean anything to me, anymore.

ごっち is the lyricist for ※liquid lilly’s liar. Thanks to okara and tezuka for putting up with me and sending me the CD.

You can see on the cover jacket illustrations a puppet holding a hand mirror.

Song: Iris
Artist:
———> tezuka
Circle: ※liquid lilly’s liar
Release: Iris
Key: Original Lyrics; Romaji; Translation

NOTES: Most of the song is from the marionette’s point-of-view, but as the “Dear Alice” in the final chorus indicates, the POV switches to that of the one holding the strings.

senobishite miwataseba kirameku machi no hi watashi wo sasotteru

Hurriedly, my fountain pen’s indigo flutters across the stationary
These words lacking courtesy also have their charm
Standing on tiptoes to look out over the lights in the city
It’s calling out to me

ano goro kirai datta dansu warutsu

I hated when I had to dance the waltz
Shadow in the color of an iris suspended over my eyes
A butterfly tied with wire to my pinky

watashi no te wo hiite Iris
ayatsuriningyou ha hitori ja odorenai no
ita karameta te wo tsuyoku tsuyoku nigitte hanasanaide

My hand draws out a “Dear Iris:”
A marionette by itself is unable to dance
The hand pulling the strings clasps them tightly
Please don’t let go

mawaru rondon kaeri no dooru shanson ni mau karappo no hondana ni masshiro no peepaabakku
senobishite nozokikomu hitoribocchi no omoide watashi wo waratteru

Around and around; through the door to return to London, we dance to a French tune
Into an empty bookshelf, a single pure white paperback
Standing on tiptoes to peer inside my lonely memories
In them I’m smiling

ano goro kirai datta otogibanashi
omocha hako he shimaikonda tekagami utsutta egao anata ni nitekita no ka na

I hated that fairy tale
Into the child’s toybox went that hand-mirror
This reflected smile is just like yours, isn’t it…

watashi no koto ima demo
kodomo no mama to omotterun deshou dakedo
anata kara no hana zutto zutto dakishime

Even now, I feel I’m just a child and yet
I’ll cherish the flower I received from you forever

anata no te wo hiite Alice
ayatsuriningyou ha futari de odoritai no
ita karameta te wo tsuyoku tsuyoku nigitte hanasanai yo

Your hand draws out a “Dear Alice:”
Does the marionette want to dance with me?
The hand pulling the strings clasps them tightly
I promise won’t let go
