the groove is strong here

Circle: Further Ahead of Warp

Key: Original Lyrics; Romaji; Translation

NOTES: 描く – I want to make a note here because I’m not sure if people who read my translations really understand the intent of えがく, because (personally) it’s such an interesting word, and feels so common… the “literal” translation is “to draw, paint” kind of word, but there is often another (more common in lyrics) translation “to describe, to depict.” In that context, lyricists use 描く as a more “beautiful” metaphor to describe how things are going. Obviously, “depict” is a more literal translation, but it doesn’t accurately represent the thoughts/intentions of the lyricist (putting aside the fact that something is always lost in translation) so I almost always say the speaker “painted” whatever concept is being written about. Someone reading just my translation might not be able to infer this intent without prior knowledge of the multiple meanings of 描く, so I thought I would make a note here about it since it has come up again and again. And, of course, I have no idea what I’m talking about.

me ga samete omoide kotoba chikadzuite hanare kurikaesu
hitokotome tsumugidasu kokoro suisai de kyou wo egaku

I woke up and remembered those words
Always getting closer and yet still detached, but I’ll try again
Speak nary few words at first, but my heart likes to ramble
I’ll paint today in watercolors

me ni utsuru subete ga itooshii no
hanshashiteiku yasashii oto

Everything reflected in my eyes, isn’t it precious?
A gentle sound reverberating

afuredasu daisuki mo kirai mo watashi no mono watashi no sekai
sukoshi zutsu sukima wo mitasu biidama mata sagashiteru

Everything is pouring out; both my love and hate belong to me
That’s my world
Piece by piece, these marbles fill my gaps
I’ll keep searching for them

Words I keep remembering, forgetting
Always getting closer and yet still detached, but I’ll try again
I carefully framed these monochrome days in sepia

ima ha mada tesaguri no kimochi mo watashi no mono watashi no sekai
sasayaita mimimoto hashiru merodi kasanariau shisen

Even now these awkward feelings still belong to me
That’s my world
A quiet melody whispered into my ear
All my world views are layered on top of one another

“Everything That Fills My Empty Places”
I love the world that makes me happy

hajimete no koi mo sono egao mo watashi no mono watashi no sekai
shiro to kuro namida de mawaru parasoru tsutau ametsubu

First love and that smile belong to me
That’s my world
White and black; the tears under a spinning parasol
Like raindrops falling down

afuredasu daisuki mo kirai mo watashi no mono watashi no sekai
sukoshi zutsu sukima wo mitasu biidama koboreta hitoshizuku

Everything is pouring out; both my love and hate belong to me
That’s my world
Piece by piece, these marbles fill my gaps
A small drop still fell out
