I’ve never done something like this before so I don’t know how to categorize it, or label it. Hopefully I’ll figure it out along the way, because this was fun and I’ll probably do it again. This counts as a primer, too.
Girl Scouts was a Philadelphia three-piece band that fused the driving pulses of emo-punk and the sometimes abrupt and jarring rhythms of math rock together in a manner that felt different from any band I had listened to before. Combined with confessional, nostalgic, and anxious lyrics about friends, growing up, and growing older, and a vocal style from vocalist/guitarist PJ Carroll that was strong in delivery and emotion, you would need to look harder to a band more “emo” than this.
After releasing a demo EP and then doing a split with Old Gray they “pretty much didn’t do anything for 2 years” and then officially broke up during the middle of 2014. I half regret not going to their last show but it was a 6 hour drive, and I had a show to play the very next day, so it’s only a half regret. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed their music and so I’ve compiled all their lyrics, and then I translated them into Japanese for the benefit of any Japanese readers but mostly for fun.
If you don’t like the band after listening to the “thanksalot” demo, I don’t know what to tell you. You probably won’t like their other 6 songs.
